Persian School Classes will be located in the brand new Aria Cultural Center in Durham, North Carolina. All classes will be held in a suite attached to the main building that has its own private entrance. For added safety, the entire suite will be locked while classes are in session.

Volunteer Opportunities
Join our team and become an advocate for Persian culture and language.
Iranian Cultural Society of North Carolina (ICSNC) is looking to recruit volunteers to teach Persian language and culture at the Persian School. Persian School volunteer teachers will seek to accomplish the ICSNC’s philosophy of education through instruction and example and provide lessons following the Persian School adopted class curriculum. Persian School volunteer teachers will take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities, and keep accurate attendance records as well as the teaching material delivered for each session. Persian School volunteer teachers will collaborate with Persian School principal and other volunteer teachers to create and implement rules and policies regulating student conduct. All volunteers will go through training to ensure that they are fully prepared to teach the class they are assigned. The Persian School and Principal vow to support every volunteer.
Persian School Volunteer Teacher Responsibilities:
- Meeting with students and School principal as well as parents to discuss education-related issues.
- Establishing a developmentally appropriate, positive, inclusive and safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.
- Advancing positive interpersonal relationships with other volunteer teachers and students.
- Communicating proficiently with students.
- Implementing Persian School adopted curriculum.
- Preparing for assigned classes and providing lessons at designated times.
- Integrating suitable use of technology.
- Administering tests following district testing protocol and providing progress reports.
- Determining and supporting standards of classroom behavior and upholding Persian School adopted discipline policies.
- Planning and supervising assignments and cultural activities for students.
Persian School Volunteer Teacher Requirements:
- Provide three (3) hours of volunteering time every or every other week during the academic year.
Classes will meet from 10am to 1pm at Khaneh Iran in Durham.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in Persian and English.
- Physical energy to join the children in their activities for two hours.
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Excellent people skills.
Proposed Class Structure:
- Kindergarten: Montessori method with children ages 5 to 8 that have limited to no Farsi language skills.
- Class 1: Children ages 8-12 that have limited to no Farsi language skills
- Class 2: Children ages 12-18 that have limited to no Farsi language skills
- Adults: Participants ages 18 and up that have limited to no Farsi language skills
