Monad promises to be an evening of fiery and meditative improvisation with two of the foremost musicians of Persian classical music in the world today. After many years of collaboration, the legendary and revered Iranian composer, Tar and Setar player, Mastero Hossein Alizadeh again joins the renowned Iranian percussionist and Tombak player, Pejman Hadadi in concert. The concert is inspired by the artists' collaborative CD of the same name, released by Hermes records in 2009. The concert Monad will not be like the album, as it will be based on the art of improvisation. Each evening on the tour will feature different and unique passages, all specific to the evening and its ?haal? - a term central to the art of improvisation in Persian classical music, which refers to the feeling and spirit of the performers in the moment. The audience is sure to be taken on an extraordinary musical journey, taking witness to some of the finest and most refined artistry in the world for traditional Pesian music, a music with a very long and rich history. Featuring the instrument setar, one of the Persia?s oldest lutes with the delicate, intricate and complicated rhythms of the Tombak and the frame drum Daf, the audience will experience a deep and moving experience. Hossein Alizadeh has been the forefront of musical life in Iran for more than three decades and is one of the most important figures in the world of Persian music today. He has single handedly created the contemporary sound of Persian classical music, pushing the boundaries of tradition to step into the arena of world music. As a performer, composer, educator and public spokesperson, he has worked relentlessly to raise the profile of Persian Classical music, both at home and all around the world. His album, Endless Vision was nominated for Best World Music Album of the Year 2006 in the 49th Edition of the Grammy Awards. Previously he was the conductor and soloist in the Iranian National Orchestra for many years. Among his numerous compos itions and albums are notable ?lm scores for the contemporary cinema of Iran. Pejman Hadadi, is the modern day master of Persian percussive instruments Tombak, Daf and Frame-drum and is considered one of the foremost percussionist in the world. In addition to being a prolific performer, he is also an instructor and founder of Neyreez World Music Institute in Southern California, and is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Durfee Foundation Master Musician Award. Renowned for his trail-blazing approach to rhythm, Pejman has performed around the world with the leading masters of Persian music in some of the worlds most prestigious world music festivals and as a member of various ensembles including the celebrated Dastan and ZARBANG ensembles. He has innovated a whole new understanding of the infinite possibilities of rhythm and has created and introduced to classical Persian music a new instruments through the creation of Tunable Frame Drum. Pejman Hadadi is also respected for his depth in the art of improvisation.
